You can help young children build their fluency without using letters though. Here are some other ideas:
- collect a stack of silverware (fork, spoon). Lay them out in a line. Ask the child to tell you what type of silverware is on the table. (fork, spoon, spoon, fork)
- Cut up different shapes (circle, square, triangle). Play the same naming game.
- Before snack time, try this exercise with common treats (carrots, peas, cracker)
